    We were on season 7, which was the height of Shark Tank's popularity. So well, when we got out there, there was a whole another cut. Like, nobody knows that when you get out there, they brought 75 entrepreneurs out. And then they they took the executive committee and put all the sharp faces in front of them and you had to pitch the executive committee. So I thought we were on the show, but they made another round of cuts and sent 50% of the home, and we made it through.

    Oh my gosh. Okay. Can I tell you about her? Because you were busy doing other projects. Right?

    Melissa [00:02:12]:

    Yes. You interviewed her, but I wanna hear. Tell me all about her.

    Monica [00:02:15]:

    1st of all, I feel like I pride myself in getting shit done in a day. This woman puts me to shame. Oh, I don't believe it. I don't believe it. Listen. Her name is Sarah Moylan. She's an entrepreneur. She's a mom.

    Monica [00:02:31]:

    She's a rodeo queen, bikini competition champion. I mean, all around Superwoman. And she's also the founder of Shefit. Have you heard of this company?

    Melissa [00:02:42]:

    I think only through you, but I Checked out the website when I knew she was gonna be a podcast guest, and I looked at her Instagram, and I'm ordering one of those bras.

    Monica [00:02:51]:

    Oh my gosh. She's revolutionizing The way workout gear for women is very cool. I bought one of her bras. I've worn it. It really customizes to all different size of boobies out there, ladies. It's it's the perfect Accessory really to any workout. She's an avid athlete. She really does care about her body.

    Monica [00:03:14]:

    She's always worked out. And Sarah just shares her story of how when she was working out and how she found such a difficult time with garments to keep her boobs in place truthfully.

    Melissa [00:03:26]:

    Yeah. Oh, I relate. It's like a big chested girl. Like, Getting them locked and loaded for a physical activity is it's always a challenge. And isn't this like a perfect kindling project for us to explore because it's for women by women. Yes. On every level, it's she's designing with women in mind for a female a big problem. She's a really, really just checking all the boxes for us as a true fire starter.

    Monica [00:03:54]:

    I mean, she's doing a lot. And even though her business is constructed around a workout bra and it's about movement and fitness, She really embodies so much more. But I really, really am excited for women to listen to her interviews. I think You will love her as much as I do now. She's now one of my new faves.     I know. It's like, We say we're gonna we're gonna fuel 10,000 kindling projects, but I think, really, we're just building 10,000 new friends for ourselves.

    You got it, girl. So listen, tell me, what what have you been solving for these days, and what challenges are you facing?

    Sara Moylan [00:05:02]:

    I think we as women and mom entrepreneurs are always facing challenges. Right? The list is is so long, but right now, we're just doing a lot of cleanup, From just, you know, things that we recognize that weren't working in the past, I think my husband and I have run the company together up to a certain point. We wanted to really find some people to help us take it to the next level, and I think What we're working on right now is really prioritizing what the needs are and then taking away, all the stuff that might be distracting us from focusing on Oh, gosh.

    Monica [00:05:29]:

    I hear you and receive you. I think entrepreneurship is so tough, and so much of it is about being nimble and learning and growing and understanding that We, we often trip up, and we've we've gotta just keep falling forward.

    Sara Moylan [00:05:41]:

    Falling forward. Yeah. We have a little motto in the office. It's like it everyone, Like, don't be afraid of failure. If you're gonna fail, just fail at a 100 miles an hour. Like, just do it. Get up. Learn from it and move on.

    Sara Moylan [00:05:51]:

    You know, sometimes Sometimes some of the failures, well, as much as they grow you, they also it's hard to let go of What happened to make that failure become a reality? And I think sometimes for me, it's hard to let go of that and just move forward. Everybody makes mistakes, And, you know, hindsight's always 2020, but, like, focusing on forward is what matters.

    Monica [00:06:12]:

    Absolutely. And so much growth comes from failures or not even failures, mishaps or missteps. And that's when I talk to our our community. It's like, first of all, don't be paralyzed by fear because then you won't do anything. And number 2, you gotta go for it. And you're prob I hopefully, you do fail or, screw up because that means you're trying things that aren't easy.

    Sara Moylan [00:06:35]:

    Being afraid, I think, is the number one thing that keeps people from getting started. Everything that we've learned and the growth that we've had has come from Previous mistakes. Right? You know, every mistake that's happened has really opened our eyes to things that probably wouldn't have ever been fixed had the failure not happened. So I think there's so much growth that comes in failure, and I think it's just a matter of giving yourself the grace to accept what happened, Learn from it and move forward and be better for it.

    Monica [00:07:01]:

    Yeah. And So let me tell everyone a little bit about your company. So Shefit is an athletic apparel company based in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Hoo hoo, Michigan. Shefit was born from founder Sarah's desire to disrupt a 40 year old industry.     Sara Moylan [00:07:48]:

    Yeah. No. It's so funny because, you know, when we start in our basement. So The company didn't really start in 2009. It was the idea that happened in 2009 when the birth of my first daughter came to be. The company never truly got off the ground. I mean, we were in our basement in two thousand 16 when we were featured on Shark Tank. So we say that 2016 was really our soft launch year because just prior to that, we had just finished a Kickstarter campaign.

    Sara Moylan [00:08:11]:

    And one of our good friends, a friend that my husband played football with in college had just gotten on Shark Tank and had called us and said, Hey. I left your name at the producer. We were just like, okay. That's funny. They're never gonna call us. And it was just really funny because within a couple of weeks of that, they had. And we were just in our basement. We just finished a Kickstarter campaign.

    Sara Moylan [00:08:30]:

    We just built a website. So as much as like the idea started in 2009, It took years of navigating and and begging people to help me understand how do you even bring a product to fruition. I didn't even know how to make a garment. You know? My background is in sales. You know? My husband and I come from sales background. I have no background in fashion or design. All my friends know I can make one hell of a Halloween costume with a hot glue gun and a nail and thread, but I do not sew. So just trying to coming up with the idea and it The idea actually was stumbled upon too.

    Sara Moylan [00:09:03]:

    Like, I didn't just I wasn't starting or trying to figure out how to start a company. I had just had my first child. And then, my my chest got out of control and I was wearing 2 3 bras at one time. And I'd always been an athlete my entire life. I grew up riding horses, Track, cheerleading. I was a d one cheerleader in college. And so I was trying to solve my own problem and I think sometimes the best solutions come out of one's desire to solve a problem. And that's really how Shefit came to be.

    Sara Moylan [00:09:31]:

    So from, like, 2009 to 2016, I was working 2 jobs and Carding the kids and begging friends who had resources. Like, a girlfriend owned a dance studio and she let me use a seamstress. We had a a friend that we had met that was a mentor that owned a fabric company. And so they were just kind of all giving me, you know, mentorship on how to get a product off the ground. So it really took from 2009 to 2016 to have, 2015 really when we did Kickstarter to have a workable product that we actually could make in somewhat of mass production 200 runs at a time. And then Shark Tank happened. So it a long run.

    Monica [00:10:07]:

    So that's crazy, Sarah. I mean, there's a lesson in there too to think that most people only see what they see now. Right? They don't See, like, the dreaming, the planting, the seeds of possibilities, the sort of keep staying up at night tossing and turning and, like, thinking, Those are the fun things and those are the years that, you know, no one talks about Jeff Bezos in the basement, like, packing books up. They just see Amazon delivery, the prime delivery. Right?

    Sara Moylan [00:10:34]:

    Yes. It's so funny you say that because I have to sometimes sit back and sit down and say, okay, Sarah. Like, I never thought the company would even reach $1,000,000. I know when my my dad had said, if someone ever offers you $1,000,000, you need to take it. When we had got started because we couldn't even raise money, we weren't even bankable. You know, I mean, my husband and I have bootstrapped the entire company to date right now. Wow. We own a 100% of the company.

    Sara Moylan [00:10:57]:

    And we're just now getting ready to raise and bring other people in. And so we've forgoed, you know, large salaries to bring larger salary needed people on board. We've always rolled all the the resources revenue right back into the company. And so even now, you know, now the company is rocking, and I would say the last 5 years have been just incredible, you know, to have 4, 5 consecutive years on the inc, fastest growing 100 to 500 companies. I mean, it's virtually impossible to make that list 2 times in a row, let alone 5 times in a row. And so, I have to pinch myself and remember how we did start because you're right, Monica. So many people think that, you know, all they saw is on Shark Tank. And, yes, we made a deal.

    Sara Moylan [00:11:38]:

    You know, we're not allowed to talk about what happened after the show, but our deal really never did end up coming to fruition. Okay. But we never end up getting getting that money. Never did any of that stuff. And, the team really was mighty and small for some time. And we were even in our basement Even up until after Shark Tank, we didn't really move out of our basement until 2018. And then from 2018 to 2020, we moved 3 times Wow. Because both of the company so big.

    Sara Moylan [00:12:06]:

    Yeah.

    Monica [00:12:06]:

    That's wild.

    Sara Moylan [00:12:07]:

    There's been a lot. Yeah. And and my husband and I up until that point and even now still ran the company together.

    Monica [00:12:12]:

    That's crazy. Okay. So so much to so much to unpack because I have so many questions. Give me a little sense of your family life. What was your childhood like? What did your parents do? That's where the seeds were planted. Right?

    Sara Moylan [00:12:24]:

    Right. I grew up my my dad was an entrepreneur, but he was he he did, construction. And so he ran a finished carpentry business. We moved around quite a bit. My mom stayed home to raise us, and We grew up with horses and on a farm, and so I never had a really much free time to do much of anything. The discipline of having animals and living on a farm and really appreciating well, not at the time, but appreciating the the significance of hard work, I think, is really what planted a lot of the seeds. I kinda knew what I wanted. I always worked hard.

    Sara Moylan [00:12:58]:

    I had to get up very early in the morning. Didn't have a ton of time for friends till I got in high school and begged my, you know, mom and dad to let me cheerlead or do track or do something, you know, that was out of the house. But they were very strict and they were great, and then I went to college from there. So I had a I had a great I had a great upbringing.

    Monica [00:13:13]:

    Okay. So you you go to college, you marry your call you fall in love with college sweetheart. Yeah. Was it love at first sight, or was it love at first sight for Bob, anyway? Uh-huh.

    Sara Moylan [00:13:23]:

    I think it was both. You know? I think it was both. It was kind of that football cheerleader thing. I was the cheerleader and the nanny for the head coach of the football team. It just so happened to be he was a football player, and we met. And We've been together ever since and, yeah, I we really are. I mean, we just celebrated our 20th year anniversary. We have Congratulations.

    Sara Moylan [00:13:39]:

    Monica [00:13:39]:

    Yeah. Four girls. What other ages?

    Sara Moylan [00:13:42]:

    4 girls. Yeah. Our oldest is a sophomore in college, and then we have a sophomore in high school, a freshman in high school, and a 5th grader. So our lives are very busy. Everyone is in sports, competitive club sports, and, it's games and work, and that's it.

    Monica [00:13:58]:

    So tell me, Sarah, what what do you think has been the biggest lessons? Having kids listen. I have 2 boys. I have almost 20 and, I'm sorry, almost 1921 year old. And I I think back on my life, and some of the greatest lessons I've learned are from my children. The boys have taught me, like, talk about humbling lessons that my boys have taught me. What about you? What what have you learned about being a parent about yourself?

    Sara Moylan [00:14:23]:

    Man, I've learned so much. One, to be flexible, right, because you can't Plan anything, especially when you have kids. And whenever you do plan, the plan just goes or buys. Yeah. Like so and being patient, really, like, Stepping back and remembering when, you know, we were that age and because I get very frustrated. The girls just attitudes are just sometimes out of control. And I think they just ground me a little bit to remind myself also to just slow down and smell the roses because that's really, really hard to do. I we're always running.

    Sara Moylan [00:14:50]:

    Like, I'm that mom that Whips into dance soccer and kicks them out so I can go run 20 errands I didn't have time to do. And then I'm running late to get back. And I worry sometimes that they're gonna grow up and, you know, have the sense of just, like, stress life just because we're moving all the time. But they do remind me that it's okay to, like, sit down and take a minute. You know, my dad always would my my my dad was not the nicest about getting me up early every morning. He would always tell me that lazy people don't sleep in. And so to this day, it's really hard to do even just sit on the couch and, like, take 10 minutes or to sleep in a little bit on a Saturday when you get up early every morning to go to the gym and start your day.

    Monica [00:15:28]:

    Oh, yeah. I can imagine. I mean, when your parents you know, it's interesting to talk about lessons. We have to be mindful of the things we say to our children because then we turn out to be 40, 50 year old women talking about the things our dad or Mom said to us when we're young that are still in our heads. Yeah. Right?

    Sara Moylan [00:15:44]:

    I know.

    Monica [00:15:44]:

    They get, like, tattooed in us, and they do impact us. And, but you're very aware of that, so That's interesting. Now is it hard for you, Sarah, with the raising 4 beautiful girls? You're in this industry that is about women empowerment. And so it's really I I see your company and all of it, and it's beautiful because it's so inclusive. But it is, you're you're talking about, you know, the idea of seeing active and movement. How do you balance it with the girls by planting the seeds of, hey, You're beautiful as you are. You are who you are.

    Monica [00:16:18]:

    Don't look for mirrors to validate you, but be empowered. Yes. Work out. Yes. Move. Do those things.

    Sara Moylan [00:16:25]:

    That's that's such a great question. And we talk about that all the time actually because when you do have girls, I mean, even when I think of my 5th grader who 2 years ago started look in the mirror and be like, I don't love the way I look. And they're constantly bombarded by what they see on their phone Yes. And social media, and it is really difficult. You know, one thing I always say is I think one of my most important jobs as a mom of girls is to teach them the importance of taking care of their body and what it means to eat healthy, have Balance. Right? Like, no one can ever live on a I hate the word diet. You know, we never talk about diet, but, like, the importance of Eating healthy, taking care of yourself, and then the balance also of working out every day. You know, you get this 1 body and you need to take care of it.

    Sara Moylan [00:17:07]:

    And so We have a lot of those questions. At the same time, you know, we've had a lot of talks about that stuff and it's been very difficult because I have 2 dancers and then I had a track runner and I have soccer player. And the dance one, I've had the hardest time with because she's since she's been 3, you know, she's constantly looking in a mirror and then comparing herself against the other girl she sees in a mirror. So that's one of, I think, the hardest the hardest sports if you have a child, especially a girl, you know, to talk about the importance of what they see in the mirror. And it has been it's been a struggle and it's been hard and now she's finally coming around and she loves her body, but it's because she's been taking care of it and She accepts what it is, and I didn't learn a lot of that. And I had my own issues in college. Mhmm. And, I went on this Yo yo weight loss, you know, kinda struggle and then found myself in fitness fitness competitions.

    Sara Moylan [00:17:55]:

    And then that's the Stream of dieting and conditioning and then getting on stage. And it's just so it's a lot. And so I never want them, you know, to struggle with that. But I think it's I think we're crazy as women to believe that none of us or none of our daughters are ever gonna struggle with any type of body issues. We all are. Mhmm. But I think it's about empowering them, getting them to love themselves and be confident what they see, and then take charge and have the responsibility of knowing that they can change whatever they don't love.

    Monica [00:18:24]:

    Right. Right. No. I I think you touched on a lot of things. So many of my friends are who are raising daughters are facing what you just said, those Deeply harming themselves through with by withholding food. I mean, we're in a society, and I I've said this over I say this probably in every podcast, like, We have mirrors to look for in professional Everywhere. Everywhere. And that is not the right mindset, but, I mean, we're all guilty of it.

    Monica [00:18:49]:

    We were you and I were just talking age before we hopped on and we're like this. And it's that crazy world. So raising daughters, I can imagine. It's like, gosh. If you can Somehow, even my boys, like, if I can just get you to love yourself first, I promise everything else will fall into place.

    Sara Moylan [00:19:05]:

    That's exactly what we talk about. Like, at the end of the day, it has to start with you. You have to love see, you have to love what you have, and and everybody's capable of changing what they don't love. But at the end of the day, like, you are given this. Right? And you can't you can't You you can't dwell on on the things that other people have that you don't or what you want that you can't achieve. You can achieve whatever you wanna achieve. You've gotta put in the work to be able to do so, but at the end of the day, you have to love in yourself and be confident in who you are and what you're working with.

    Monica [00:19:36]:

    Love that. Love that. And I'm sure they're paying attention because you're such a great role model and are doing just that. So okay. You're running an empire. I'm gonna call it an empire. You are committed to 20 years of marriage. That takes work.

    Monica [00:19:49]:

    It's doesn't just happen, people. So how the heck do you make time for a little bit? For all the women listening, like, how do you balance all that? That's a massive Question. Yeah. You know? The people really have a hard time with.

    Sara Moylan [00:20:01]:

    Oh, I think I struggle with balance all the time even though I I'm always the first one to say you have to have balance in your life. Like, You know? I I wish that I could say that work wasn't 247, but, you know, it is right now for us. And, you know, every conversation around the dinner table somewhat involves, Shefit. But it's just a matter of prioritizing. I think you have to say no to a lot of things. I'm a yes person. I like to say yes to everything and everyone, and I've I've been really working on that because you you can't do that. Or else all your priorities, You know, just end up falling to the wayside and that's always what's happened for me.

    Sara Moylan [00:20:35]:

    It's also, you know, I've never had, up until a couple years ago, we've always had, wouldn't say a ton of employees, but, you know, there's a point we we reached we touched almost 70 employees, even 40 employees is a lot. And I worry about each and every one of them like a child, you know, at the end of the day. Like, If the if the lights don't stay on, it's, you know, it's on me. And so those things go to bed with me as well. And so I think it's just a matter of prioritizing And recognizing, the things that are most important and then finding ways of saying no and being very cautious and careful with what you do say yes too. And if you're if you're giving, you know, time to a nonpriority, then, you know, you're doing yourself a disservice. And and I'm I'm I've been really working on those priorities and what those are. And if and if they don't fall within that list, then I gotta check them off, and I just have to cross them off and recognize that it's okay to Say no and not get to them.

    Sara Moylan [00:21:29]:

    So those are always the difficult things to do and those are the things that I know I'm I'm trying to focus on is really identifying to what are those values and purposes that I that I you know, from from myself because I think if you can figure that out, then that really does dictate where the priority should fall.

    Monica [00:21:44]:

    Yeah. And I and I read somewhere that you are someone of faith. And is that something that is sort of an anchor for you and as far as a nonnegotiable?

    Sara Moylan [00:21:53]:

    Absolutely. Like, my nonnegotiables are Honor my body. Like, if I don't start off the day by working out and I have to do it in the morning.

    Monica [00:21:59]:

    Okay

    Sara Moylan [00:22:00]:

    Because if I don't do it in the morning, the day happens and that is a absolute must for me. Like, I will I will only pass up the gym unless I'm sick. So, you know, I lay them at his feet as you will, the prayer time in the morning, my body time in the morning. You know, I end the evenings with, just gratitude and things the same way I start the morning. So prayer for me is in the morning and at night. You know, I also feel like by going to bed at night and praying on things I need to focus on, that gives me some clarity come morning. And, you know, I take some time In the evening after I'm done with my prayers to pray for my husband, pray for my family, pray for my company and my employees. But then I really take some time to be thankful for The community and the company that we have, and I read I read hashtags because I love reading what people are posting and saying.

    Sara Moylan [00:22:46]:

    It it also helps me understand the consumer better, And it reminds me that we really do have a product that's empowering and changing lives. Everything for me is anchored in that word and and resting and knowing, you know, that you have to Have trust in him. And if you don't, you know, that's okay. Someone may have a different religion, but that's just what works for me and my family, and that's really what we focus on for sure.

    Monica [00:23:08]:

    I love that. And I think it's really important to have those, nonnegotiables of those daily the daily dosage, I guess, if you will. And Ultimately, before we get into all things your business, which is incredible, why Like, your personal why, Sarah? Like, why you do like, why you do every like, well, you just mentioned you rattled off all these things that you do on a daily basis. I mean, it's like, oh, It's a tornado. Right? It's a lot. Yeah. Why? What drives you?

    Sara Moylan [00:23:36]:

    You you have to know your purpose. You have to know your why. It's what I tell the girls is it's your inner compass. It's like the Holy Spirit. Right? If you don't have this inner fire to just Your gut doesn't just, like, get so excited and hurt because you're because when you're having a bad because when you're having a bad day, which bad days are way more than the good, especially if you're gonna be an entrepreneur, our bad days are way more than the good. There has to be a reason that you keep getting up every single day and coming back. And and I believe that there's a faith element to that too. Like, God opens the doors.

    Sara Moylan [00:24:09]:

    He provides the path. It's whether you decide to walk through it and listen, but at the end of the day, There is this purpose why inside of you. And if your gut doesn't just yearn for it and be so excited about it, then your inner compass is off and it's just not It's not what you should be doing. So I always tell everyone, you know, the first thing you need to do when you start a business is just really know that you love it and this is what you wanna do because It's so difficult and every single day comes with challenges. And if you don't have that purpose fire inside you to keep it keep going and not throw in the towel, Then you will throw in the towel and you will walk away. And so I also believe that there's a faith element in the purpose. Right? God has a destiny for everyone. Everyone's born for something.

    Sara Moylan [00:24:52]:

    Puts those gifts inside everyone, and I just believe that this is part of my gift. And it's it it it is really changing the lives of women and girls everywhere. This product, you know, Being physically active whether you're an athlete or you're working out 1 day a week or you're working out 6, 5 days a week like myself, you are not going and getting physical at any of those levels without a sports bra. You're not. It is it is the football pads for females. Right? You're not getting on the football field without your helmet or your football pads. You're not going to be in physical without your sports bra. Like, it is the one motivational piece here that we as women have.

    Sara Moylan [00:25:26]:

    And if you think about it, it it really is empowering. Being active takes work. It is not easy to go get sweaty or go to the gym. I myself find myself in the car motivating my own self saying you can do this to walk into the gym every day. It's not easy. So we should have gear that rises to that occasion that makes us feel Beautiful or confident or sexy or strong because doing something physical is difficult. So make me feel good and then Make me feel like holy cow. I can conquer anything.

    And that's what this product does for women. If you just read some of the reviews, you'll you'll see what they say. And that is the that is I believe what God's put inside me. And I just can't stop until every woman and girl is in control and has the fit and support that she deserves to be able to go and accomplish the things that she knows she's capable of.

    Everybody have that's why I love this podcast and what you're doing because even my girls at the age, you know, my my sophomore is already like, mom, I don't know what I wanna do. Well, it's okay. You know, it's okay. You don't know what you need to do wanna do, but but God gives us pebbles. Right? He lay he opens doors. He closes doors. Like, those those are part of the signs that you need to look for and hear, and those are part of the little whispers too. You know? What is it? Sometimes I tell when I'm when I'm talking to other women too and they're Sure.

    I'm like, keep a journal. Make a list.

    Monica [00:27:09]:

    Good one.

    Sara Moylan [00:27:10]:

    Make a list of all the things that you hate start with the things that you hate and you despise. Right? Sometimes that's easier than the things that you love or you wanna do.

    Monica [00:27:17]:

    For sure.

    Sara Moylan [00:27:17]:

    And and sometimes it's not about it's not about like, this Kind of fell in my lap. I really will say I I loved what I was doing. I was a med vice rep. I I loved my job. This fell upon me because I was struggling with something that I was doing that I loved which was working out, taking care of myself, competing. And I was struggling to do that because I was pregnant at the time and my chest was out of control. I was wearing 2 3 bras at a time and I was wrapping the back at the rib in the shoulder straps with a rubber band to tie it off to get the fit I wanted. And I just felt like I looked ridiculous.

    Sara Moylan [00:27:51]:

    I felt like people were watching me. I was depressed. I was walking away from things I I normally was was capable of doing and that's what led to that was my problem and it led me I actually I actually sat in my room for, like, 2 weeks when I was pregnant and I was so depressed. And my husband was like, this is you gotta do something. And that's when I was like, no. I do gotta do something. And that's when I went to the the fabric store and, you know, hot glue gun and all this and made something. And it wasn't, like, amazing, but it worked.

    Sara Moylan [00:28:20]:

    And it was like, you know, and it was almost like a sign. And even then for 2, 3 years after that, I never even thought of it as a business. I was just like, this is a great this is great. Right. And it fell up it started to my my homemade bras fell apart, and I Ask a friend if she would make me some bras, and she did. And she made me, like, 5 bras. And after a while, some friends were like, what are you wearing? What are you doing? And then I swear everywhere I went, it was like God had a light on any woman at the gym or any woman running. It's like he had a light on her And it was like, oh my gosh.

    Sara Moylan [00:28:55]:

    That's when it, like, went off and I was like, I'm not the only one that has this problem. And and it just became. And and then and it's also becoming its obsession.

    Monica [00:29:04]:

    That's incredible. I mean, so you go to solve for something that you're personally struggling with. You decide to just prototypes by the way, do you have any of these prototypes? I hope that they're framed.

    Sara Moylan [00:29:13]:

    I am so I am so, so mad. I if I I literally when she made me my bras, she's like, what do you want me to do with these? And I was like, throw them away. I never thought I was gonna start a business. I mean, I if I can have those prototypes back, they would be in a frame somewhere. Like, I and it's so sad because I don't, unfortunately. So a tip to any of you out there. No matter what, keep something like that because I wish I could get that back. I I mean, I can't even recreate that if I wanted

    Monica [00:29:39]:

    to. No. But, I mean, just the the idea of how far you've come just for having Yeah. You know, that is incredible. So here you are. Now now, I mean, your business is ridiculous. Like, you were You just mentioned named again Newsweek America's list for the fastest growing online company. Your name you've They're 22.

    Monica [00:29:59]:

    Yeah. You've partnered up with as the official sports bra for USA Pickleball. Hello?

    Sara Moylan [00:30:05]:

    Yeah. Which is pretty cool. I know I like, the fastest growing sport amongst Women.

    Monica [00:30:08]:

    Yes.

    Sara Moylan [00:30:09]:

    You know, like I said, every woman wears a sports bra. And we have drawers of bras sports bras because they all suck and none of them work. True. Yet we still We still keep throwing them in. And I always say, I think we as women have been conditioned to believe that it's as good as it's gonna get because we've been let down so much. We we did a study. Well, we had a third party vendor do a study for us, and we found out that 9 out of 10 women do not have a sports bra that they love. Like like, they're loyal to shoes and leggings and loyal to other Guilty.

    Sara Moylan [00:30:39]:

    But yeah. But they're not there's not a sports bra that they're loyal to. But if you talk to anyone in the Shefit nation, they will tell you Shefit has changed their life and it really has. And and it's not just women, it's Girls. You put a sports bra on a girl and it changes our entire perspective when it works. Girls are falling on a sport at such an alarming age, and the statistics are because they are embarrassed of the rest. Wow. And it's sad because you think about the stuff that Sports does for female.

    Sara Moylan [00:31:08]:

    I mean, my gosh. Sports shapes the character of who you are. Even if you even if you just do it for a season or you do it for a couple times. I mean, most people won't even hire someone unless they were they can show that they were an athlete usually in college off of their degree or they played High school, like, some level because it gives you this character building, you know, that that you really can't get from anything else. And so it's so important. Yet it's the last thing that women think about or even moms for their daughters. I mean, I see some of the sports bras that my daughter's friends are wearing and I'm like, Oh my gosh. What why are you guys they don't know.

    Sara Moylan [00:31:42]:

    Right. You know, they don't know because we've been conditioned to believe that it's as good as it's gonna get. But Shefa is changing

    Monica [00:31:48]:

    Yeah. You are. I mean, you certainly are. You're really breaking down some walls. And, I mean, let's face it. You're not you're going up against some giants of the world. Right? This is not like, for, like, small play. You're going after the big boys.

    Monica [00:32:03]:

    I love it.

    Sara Moylan [00:32:04]:

    I remember when I asked my dad for money, which by the way, my parents never gave us $1. Actually, nobody that we we it was close to us dead. But I remember asking him for $25,000. And I remember him saying to me, you know and I love my dad. My dad's been great. So, like, this is not, but he was like, you know, How why do you think you can compete with, like, Nike and the big guys? And I was like, I don't know. I just think that we can. And I look back at how innocent that was, But I do believe that's what's gotten us to where we're at because now we know that now they're aware of us.

    Sara Moylan [00:32:34]:

    Oh, yes. Us. We're we're we're we're on the map, and I can't believe we're on the map. But we're on the map, and I couldn't have ever imagined. But we're because we're doing things different. Shefit is a sports bra first company. If you think of all the other competitors out there, they all lead with something different. Sure.

    Sara Moylan [00:32:52]:

    And sports bras are an afterthought. That's why I think women are fed up and sick of bras and why they've given up. And even when we talk to women that have purchased Shefit and they email us or they call us or we read a review, they They're like, this was my I didn't think that this was gonna work. Like, just another sports bra. Just another marketing thing. But my gosh. Like, this has changed my life. One of my favorite quotes is We always ask what size they are.

    Sara Moylan [00:33:15]:

    Yeah. Like, what's your your your cup size? A girl that was a b cup and she said, I didn't even know I didn't know I bounced until I didn't bounce anymore. And that's a b cup because you don't know what it feels like. If you can shed, you know, a an a tenth of a second off of a time or you can go A little bit longer in a run or you can jump just a little bit high. You know, that kind of advantage or even in a daily workout, Like, you know, even in a daily workout, if you can just go a little bit harder, you know, that's what this does for you. This puts you in control. All the other bras out there are already adjusted or barely give you any adjust. They are they're just it it's a bra looking to fit you.

    Sara Moylan [00:33:56]:

    This is you fitting your bra.

    Monica [00:33:58]:

    There's so much of what you're saying. I'm I'm that I'm really now truly appreciating that your company is so much bigger than a sports bra. I am now really as I listen to your passion and speaking through this, I see the empowerment of that. And what you just said, Sarah, You're right because we are also different. Our bodies Yes. It's impossible to create a mold, a one size fits all or even like a 34, 30 Yeah. Small, medium, large, impossible.

    Sara Moylan [00:34:26]:

    It's it is impossible. We want her to be able to make sure that she can move in the way that she wants to move. She can do the things that she knows she's capable of doing. And like I said, we refuse to settle until that happens, until every single woman and girl is in control of her fit and knows that she's in charge.

    Monica [00:34:39]:

    Oh my god. This is incredible. I I love it so much. Now but for you, like, your business, if you look back on it, certainly even though you've mentioned that, Shark Tank's never really evolved to what you thought, but That moment was pivotal in your business.

    Sara Moylan [00:34:54]:

    Oh my gosh. Pivotal, it it was amazing. You know, it was amazing. We never even thought we'd make it that are. So to to to every week, there was cut and, you know, we were on season 7, which was the height of Shark Tank's popularity. So that's what's It's crazy.

    Monica [00:35:08]:

    How crazy was it being there, and were you so nervous? I would still I love that show, by the way.

    Sara Moylan [00:35:12]:

    I love the show still to this day. Like, I sit and watch it quite a bit. I think it's Like, American Idol thing now. It's kind of like been there, done that. But every once in a while, it's fun to pop it in and see what's going on. It's it gave rise to the dream, the American dream. Right? Like an

    Monica [00:35:25]:

    Yeah. So that's why I love it.

    Sara Moylan [00:35:27]:

    That too. I get goosebumps still even talking about it. Like, our girls' schools, in in middle school, 8th grade, they still every they've been doing it I don't even know how long. They have the 8th grade shark tank project. And so I just love it because it it's a it's a reminder of what you can accomplish if you want to. But Height of the season, popularity was season 7. That was us. I never thought that we would make it that far.

    Sara Moylan [00:35:46]:

    We were still in our basement. They asked if if we wanted to, like, audition for the show, so we did. And, I mean, we could have a whole podcast on this. So if you ever wanna come back and talk about

    Monica [00:35:55]:

    Okay.

    Sara Moylan [00:35:56]:

    But long story short, we auditioned every week, Cuts remain every week, and we just kept making it. And I thought there's just whatever. We're not gonna make it. They called us up and was like, we want you to be on the show. And we actually had to turn them down, to Say no because we had a lot of problems with our 1st batch of inventory coming out of, coming overseas. And we had explained to them, like, listen. If we go on the show right now, we're only gonna be able to show them, like, you know, $45,000 of sales and it's not gonna look that great. But we have 5,000 units coming, like, in in a month.

    Sara Moylan [00:36:26]:

    And if I can move that in a very short period of time, I could really show them the momentum of what we could do when we have the right supplier because at the time we were making our product over in LA and we can only make 50 to 200 at a time. And so turned them down. I thought that was crazy. They called us back the next day. I thought I made the biggest mistake of my life. And they called us back the next day and asked us to be on because they take 2 times a year, July September. And so they called us back and said, okay. We want you guys to come out so bad.

    Sara Moylan [00:36:54]:

    Come out in September. So they gave us that extra time.

    Monica [00:36:57]:

    Wow.

    Sara Moylan [00:36:57]:

    I was able to move all those units in 45 days. I think I moved to, like, $55,000 of product by myself in 45 days. And so when we got out there, There was a whole another cut. So like nobody knows that when you get out there, they brought 75 entrepreneurs out. And then they they took the executive committee and put all the sharp faces in front of them, and you had to pitch the executive committee. So I thought we were on the show, but they made another round of cuts and sent 50% of the people home and we made it through and then we made it onto the show. And so after that round of cuts, They literally just literally opened the door, Monica. And open the door and you walk and you step foot on that oriental carpet, you know, that that that is or I don't know if they still have.

    Sara Moylan [00:37:39]:

    They do, that you step put in that carpet, you look at everybody and you're not allowed to talk because it's dead silence until the producer said go. And then you go And you just go. And there's no stopping. There's no editing. As soon as you are done with your pitch that you've memorized because you've done this every day because you have to do cuts. Okay. They literally shark tank happens. And they just start, like, sharking, like, questions and it's crazy.

    Sara Moylan [00:38:02]:

    But we were we were in there for an hour and a half. The average time is

    Monica [00:38:06]:

    An hour and

    Monica [00:38:07]:

    a half?

    Sara Moylan [00:38:07]:

    Hour and a half, 90 minutes. The average time is actually 35 minutes. Well, these were stats back when we were we were on it, so it could change now. But Longest at that time was 3 hours, and we were an hour and a half. And,

    Monica [00:38:18]:

    also, they're really asking some deep questions. So we're only getting a glimpse of You're

    Sara Moylan [00:38:23]:

    getting an 8 minute clip. Like and you have no idea what so when we finished, they make you, like, debrief with a psychiatrist, which is

    Monica [00:38:30]:

    That's hilarious.

    Sara Moylan [00:38:31]:

    Like, you can't leave until you debrief, which is really funny because it is an emotional roller coaster. And even making a deal, like, it was just like, what just happened? And the amount of questions that fly at you and then they're you know, they talk over each other. Mark's asking you a question and you're not done, but then Damon wants to know this, and then I'm not done, but you wanna look at him and it's it's just madness. And so it it was it was a lot of fun. I mean, we could have a whole conversation on it, but, made a deal. And and and and it was it was it just we just, You know, didn't see eye to eye. It didn't come to fruition, but it was great. The experience was great.

    Sara Moylan [00:39:07]:

    The opportunity was great. And we still have reruns, and we still see the spikes to this day. So I you know, Shark Tank really did help catapult, I would say, you know, the start of the business for sure because then we they reran us, I think, less than 6 months later, And we were just coming out of breathing out of the mess that Shark Tank had actually our company. Because we we sold Five times more than we ever anticipated selling. And we went into a back order, situation with our factory. Yeah. So it was a mess that we know We know more than came out of that mess and they called us and said, you're rerunning. And we're like, what? We can't even breathe still.

    Sara Moylan [00:39:47]:

    And then it happened all over again. So it was It was like a 16 month crazy escapade from when we aired to when we were done re airing. It was it was pretty crazy and intense, but It is one of the best things that probably coulda happened to us today. And, again, another door that got opened that I believe is a reason why we're sitting here today and talking.

    Monica [00:40:08]:

    A 100%. That's potential growth that you had in those 2 showings of the show really has given you an army that you needed for those repeat Sales and also for that referral, like, hey, you know, because it you know how we are with women. Like, we like it. Like, we are telling all my girlfriends about it. Yeah. And I'm sure a lot of your business is that way.

    Sara Moylan [00:40:26]:

    Yeah. Absolutely. It is referral. It is word-of-mouth. I mean, that's why even, you know, with a lot of our ads, it's all UGC. You know? It's all user generated content. So this isn't, You know? Yes. We do our own stuff, but we always sprinkle in UGC because there's just this element of authenticity that we want people to know.

    Sara Moylan [00:40:42]:

    Like, This is real. It does work for a 6 luxe woman, and it does work for an extra small. You know? Yeah. That's the spectrum of our size chart is 6. We do not say extra large. We say luxe. And so we're in XX small all the way up to 6 luxe. And so, You know, most of the industry stops for for her, a plus size female.

    Sara Moylan [00:41:03]:

    The competitive for that would be like a an extra extra large. So most of our competitors, The mainstream competitors stop at an extra extra large which is our 2 luxe and we go up through a 6 luxe. So we go up 4 more sizes in that for her. And a lot of women at that 2 l and above size can't find anything good. And, you know, it's, again, it's hard to work out. She doesn't wanna put on something that looks like grandma's bra to go do something that takes motivation. She wants to put on something that makes her feel confident and strong and sexy. And so, we're just very lucky.

    Sara Moylan [00:41:37]:

    It's been a struggle with our suppliers from day 1 to wanna go up to that size. And then if you notice on our website, we charge the same size whether you're an extra small or a 6 luxe. We don't believe that you should have to pay more because of the size. Even though the suppliers, you know, on the backside of that, to do that for us.

    Monica [00:41:54]:

    Mhmm.

    Sara Moylan [00:41:55]:

    So I

    Monica [00:41:56]:

    love that yours it sounds like you're just very thoughtful and mindful with all your marketing and even the way that the choice of words you use in your copy. And I think that speaks of your, mindfulness of what it is that we're we are all individuals and we're all having a different journey. And so that being sensitive to that, I think it's it's very responsible of you, and I appreciate that as a woman myself. You know, that's important to me.

    Sara Moylan [00:42:22]:

    Yeah. Well, I appreciate that's important to me too. Like, I was the one struggling. Like, I couldn't find what I needed. We are different. You know, you can't expect nobody's using the same cell phone from 42 years ago like braces True. Everything. Why are we still and it's Crazy.

    Sara Moylan [00:42:36]:

    We still are with so many women are still reluctant to try something new. They're so reluctant to pull the trigger. And, yes, It's not cheap. It's a $70 sports bra. An entry level sports bra for $70. Not cheap. But my gosh, we have no problem, you know, spending $70 to upgrade this or upgrade that. I I and I think, again, I think she's just been so let down that she's like, that's Yeah.

    Sara Moylan [00:42:57]:

    Work for me. That's not gonna work for me. But my gosh, if you give it a try, it literally is life changing.

    Monica [00:43:03]:

    So as you think about the growing, and and we talked a little bit about some of the growing pains and you've learned a lot, you've You failed forward a lot this year. What is sort of now your north start as you're building this? What is the next big thing? Where do you see this evolving too.

    Sara Moylan [00:43:18]:

    All we are gonna focus on for the next minimum 3 years. Minimum 3 years is just really focusing on building out that drawer for her. And and is it is it her tanks? Is it her swimsuits? Is it her everyday bras? It's not just 1 sports bra either. Right now, we've had all this amazing growth and A success on 1 sports bra. And that's our ultimate. And I would say our flex tube, 98% of our business comes from 2 bras. And out of those 2 bras, the the ultimate is 80% of the business. And so we have to now start to expand.

    Sara Moylan [00:43:52]:

    The ultimate isn't gonna be the right bra for every woman out there, which is why we created the flex. Okay. But, you know, there are women that don't always want high impact. She doesn't always want low impact. She and so we have to now start to expand on all those levels on low, medium, high everyday. And everything else everywhere else where our technology can really give her the ability to be in control, her level of support and comfort. And that's really what we're focusing on is how do we do that? How do we stay focused on becoming that and really rising to the top so that when anybody thinks of anything bra related, it's Shefit. It's Shefit.

    Sara Moylan [00:44:28]:

    And how do we innovate for her? How do we listen to her? I think So many brands out there don't listen to the voice of the consumer. We are launching, and so you're getting a sneak peek to this, but we're launching, Shefit Studios. And we've been doing this forever, but we never really have talked about it. And what Shefit Studio is is we actually We actually have a group of women, that we put product on over and over and over. And they're not in a you know, they're they're they're not in a lab inside, you know, like, when you bring 1 or 2 people in and you test raw. This is going on. We might go through 50 to a 100 fits on these women. We may put, you know, Hundreds of different product on them to get the right fit, to understand what it is they love, what don't they love.

    Sara Moylan [00:45:11]:

    And then when we get it into a place, we're launching it into the studio Which gives the community an opportunity to try this amazing product that we work so hard on with your peers and other people, and now you get to try it. But guess what? It's not an official launch. We actually want to know now what you think. So you get to come in and try at a discounted price, a small discounted price, but then we're gonna do a small amount so that we can perfect it even more before we actually We officially launch it. Who's doing that? They're not. Because it's expensive No. And it takes time. Uh-huh.

    Sara Moylan [00:45:40]:

    Hard, Monica. And I love what you just said to the North Star. Think that's really good advice for people listening because I told you at the beginning, you know, we're fixing the last step. Is when you lose sight of your core and who you are and you allow others to take that away from you, That's when you get off track. And I but if you take anything from this, don't ever lose sight of the purpose. Right? The purpose, that why, that core, that fire. But then when when you when when you're you're up and you're moving, you're seeing success, don't listen to anybody else that tells you that you should get away from that. Because that's when everything went wrong.

    Monica [00:47:10]:

    Okay.

    Sara Moylan [00:47:11]:

    And and now coming back to that, that That's beginning to be the North Star. Yeah. So I think that's really important. Letting go of those mistakes and being okay with what happened in the past and just believing that that was part of the journey to get to where you're going, that's gonna be a lot bigger than where you thought you were gonna be. Yeah.

    Monica [00:47:25]:

    I love the kindling as you've given us so many great, just nuggets of wisdom. So thank you so much. I also appreciate that your company is very much, socially responsible and in many ways, a social enterprise by giving back. You have, like, the sports project.

    Sara Moylan [00:47:40]:

    So you are really trying to do this global movement for all women, and that is critical. And that's what I see from your company That I'm just so excited and so proud of you. And, hey, by the way, how's dad feeling about you now competing with the big boys? I'm pretty sure he's seeing, like, okay, girl. I see you.

    Sara Moylan [00:48:12]:

    I know I know mom and dad are very proud of me. And I'm actually very, very grateful for the fact that they never gave me the money when I asked for it, because it made it that much sweeter to achieve it without that. You know?
